I'm Brandon. You've probably heard my voice on the TCN podcast if you've listened to any of them, and at one time or another yelled at your computer because I've said something you disagree with. That's quite alright :)
I feel the need to differentiate myself to another level of pride in the ThunderCats fandom because, not only was I into the show and toys, I ate, slept, and breathed ThunderCats as a kid. Hopefully that has come across in some stories I've told on the podcasts. Just about everything revolved around ThunderCats growing up for me, from watching it on t.v., to my parents using it as a motivational tool to get me to learn to do things growing up, to living out ThunderCats adventures on a daily basis on the playground. I had ThunderCats themed birthdays and birthday cakes as a kid. I don't recall having any other 80s themed birthdays.
I was into a lot of shows and toys as a kid: Masters of the Universe, Transformers, C.O.P.S. n Crooks, Inhumanoids, Bravestarr, Filmation and Real Ghostbusters, SilverHawks....but ThunderCats took precedence above them all. That was the show that mattered more than any whether or not it got taped on days I couldn't watch it before school. That was the toyline that my family actually kept up with which figures I had and which ones I needed to complete the collection.
Like Manny, in the 90s my interest in ThunderCats waned as both I grew older and the show wasn't on television anymore. I recall the Toonami relaunch and getting the episodes taped again, but I guess as a teenager I had too much other stuff going on in life to really get into it again. Time passed and, while I never forgot about ThunderCats, with no show and only comics (which I wasn't into anymore) from Wildstorm out at the time I really didn't see ThunderCats as being anything more than a nostalgia from my past.
That all changed in 2005 when I got news that the show was being released on DVD. That started not only a ThunderCats tidal wave for me, but one that has turned into an 80s tidal wave that I'm still riding to this day. I picked up each of the DVD sets on day one, blazed through them all, and was excited about the property again. Shortly after I joined the online fandom and felt rejuvenated to be able to discuss my favorite show with other fans. It was there that I met Manny and, for some strange reason, he saw fit to ask me to join him in creating ThunderCatsNOW. We sometimes go back and forth on the podcasts but I'm forever grateful to him for the opportunity he gave me. I also met the talented Celesta shortly afterwards and I'm humbly grateful to be on a team with fandom legends. They are some of the very few people I've come across that I can safely say their passion for the show at the very least equals mine. Not only are they superb Thunderfans, they are also outstanding people that I've come to consider friends.
A couple of years ago I discovered another one of my favorite toylines was being rebooted by Mattel in Masters of the Universe Classics (MOTUC). I joined up on their fandom after getting hooked on that line and started trying to sound a drum beat for anyone that would listen in hopes that Mattel would acquire my favorite toyline from my childhood and reboot that one as well. Of course that didn't happen, but it wasn't long after that we got the news that both a new show and a new toyline were in the making. I've shared my opinion as a truly life long super fan on both the new toys and the show. While it hasn't been a flawless rebirth, I'm super excited to even have a reason to record podcasts on both! I look forward to where the property is headed, which I hope isn't back into obscurity any time soon.
Fun stuff that probably only I care about:
* first ThunderCats figure - Jackalman (because the store I went to didn't have any Lion-Os or any other good guys).
* favorite episode from the original series - (tie) "Fond Memories", "Tower of Traps"
* favorite episode from the new series thus far - the pilot (Sword of Omens/Ancient Spirits of Evil)
* favorite ThunderCat as a kid - I mean, was there a male kid alive that the answer wouldn't be Lion-O?
* favorite ThunderCat as an adult - Panthro. He had the best one liners early on in the series
* favorite ThunderCats theme from the RB series - Panthro.
* favorite villain - Grune (but Safari Joe comes in a close second)
* favorite Mutant - Vultureman
* favorite toy - Cat's Lair
* favorite non-toy/DVD ThunderCats memorabilia - Panini stickerbook
